The Cigarette That Saved Lives - The DNA Project

An interesting take on cigarettes showcased here in a new commercial for the "DNA Project" entitled The Cigarette That Saved Lives.
The DNA Project had the following to say about the ad campaign:
Egg Films’ Bruno Bossi recently directed The Cigarette That Saved Lives, a controversial commercial for The DNA Project, a non-profit organisation raising crime scene awareness and fighting crime with science with the invaluable support of The Change a Life Trust.
“It came as a surprise, as it does to most people, that we do not have the legislative framework in place to more fully use DNA profiling for crime scene investigation in our country,” says Bruno.
In South Africa, the National DNA Database only has about 133 000 DNA profiles and there are only two South African Police Services labs that can perform DNA profiling on forensic samples.

Conceptualised by Fox P2, The Cigarette That Saved Lives depicts another brutal South African murder but focuses on the evidence that’s left behind, encouraging viewers to never disturb a crime scene as DNA can convict.
The ad is paradoxical: a cigarette saves lives in a commercial where the lead woman dies. “The wonderful thing about this ad is that it creates conversation,” says The DNA Project founder Vanessa Lynch. “Egg and Fox P2 have done a brilliant job.”
Everyone involved with the shoot worked pro bono, from the crew to the rental houses. “This project struck me as one of the more worthwhile causes in our country,” says Bruno. The DNA Project would also like to thank the Change A Life Trust for helping by sponsoring this advert.

Vanessa set up The DNA Project after her father’s murderers went free because DNA evidence left at the crime scene was discarded, destroyed and not properly collected.
“There was only one chance to collect and preserve that evidence, and it was lost,” says Vanessa. “We can never go back, so that crucial link to my father’s killers was lost with it.”

The Cigarette That Saved Lives is currently screening on local broadcasters as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children between 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and 10 December 2011 (International Human Rights Day).
“Awareness is one of our biggest problems,” says Vanessa. “You can have the laws and systems in place but you only have once chance to gather the evidence before it’s lost forever.”

Aspirin ads were wrapped on the backs of buses all around the city of Toronto. The ads used brake lights to exaggerate the pain caused by headaches. Google Chrome "King Arthur Flour"

King Arthur Flour, a 220-year-old Vermont business, shares enthusiasm for the tradition of baking through the Web, and inspires bakers to discover new items, recipes and techniques.
The Power Of The Web...
Good's agency arm Good/Corps has officially partnered with Google for a series of television spots that promote small businesses. The campaign, which began with Good's presentation to Google about the two organizations' shared vision regarding social value, currently has two spots. The first one, Frank Restaurant, about a mom-and-pop establishment, debuted earlier in the fall. The second, King Arthur Flour, is about a centuries-old startup that gained a new lease of life with its partnership with Google.

The aim of the campaign is to connect Google, an economic powerhouse in its own right, with small businesses with a huge history, like King Arthur Flour, and how these businesses have reinvigorated themselves with the help of Google.

dabball App Ode to the Famous Peanut Butter Cup Ad

Art + Games App gets a complete redesign and goes retro with an ode to the popular 80's Peanut Butter Cup commercial.
dabball, the first-ever art gallery + games app for the iPhone and iPad, relaunched this week with a completely new redesign, repricing structure, and retro-inspired web commercial.

In addition to discovering more than 400 original artworks by 43 international artists, art and game enthusiasts can now play all 400+ dexterity games, download featured art as digital wallpapers, as well as take 20% off their favorite museum-quality prints ordered directly from their mobile device.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, ecopop teamed up with We Are Helsinki to create a commercial that pays homage to a popular peanut butter cup advertising campaign you might remember from the 80’s. Peanut butter cups? Yep. Using the same simple analogy to communicate dabball's unique combination of art and games seemed just too delicious to pass up.

Lynx Dry Ad and Lucy Pinder Get Banned In The UK

Lucy Pinder and the Lynx Dry ad campaign gets banned by the UK's Advertising Standards Authority because they are said to be sexually suggestive, indecent, provocative, glamorize casual sex and objectify women, so there ya go.
Here's a behind the scenes look into all three commercials in the campaign.

Lynx said the campaign is simply what the target, young men "come to expect, and were comfortable with the typical narrative, tone and content seen in advertising for the brand" and in relation to beach-based ads, "she [the model in the ad] was not undressed to an extent that would be in any way unusual in that location."

Samsung Galaxy S2 "The Next Big Thing" Pokes Fun At Apple iPhone

Samsung makes fun of Apple iPhone owners in a new commercial. The ad gives us a typical line up of people obviously waiting in line for their new iPhone who spot a woman with what they discover is a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I love the ad, but I may be a little biased since I recently said good bye to both my Blackberry and iPhone and hello to my Samsung S2, I just wish they would have given the device a led notification light.

Saks Fifth Ave 2011 Holiday 3D Projection

The Saks Fifth Avenue Snowflake & the Bubble projection show is bigger and even more spectacular for 2011. The 3D Projection mapping show runs every night for 5 hours, from Nov 21st till Jan 6th. Making it the longest outdoor Video mapping experience in the world.

This year, the activity was quite unique in that shoppers could scan QR codes on the windows of Saks which saw them redirected to a mobile site where they could watch the projection and find out about Saks. Our team worked very closely with the visual display team at Saks who worked on the windows to incorporate characters/elements of the windows into the projection, such as the yetti on the top of the building and the pipes that come out of the windows. The giant clock is a permanent feature – unusual for a video-mapping projection – counting down the time until the next projection. The projection runs from November 21st until January 6th, 5pm to 10pm.

New Under Armour "Prepare" Spot

Rainy, snowy weather is here, and you'd better be ready if you're stepping out to face the elements. Nice Shoes comes prepared for the conditions in a new spot for Under Armour shot and edited by Producers Rip Lambert and Dave Hudson, respectively. The studio, led by Creative Director Aron Baxter and Colorist Lenny Mastrandrea, deftly captures the vagaries of menacing nature during the freezing season in promoting Under Armour's line of cold-weather gear available at Dick's Sporting Goods.
The spot opens with a school bus pulling up to a snowy stadium and a determined high-school football team solemnly filing out, uniforms in hand. A hard-barking narrator punctuates the visuals with motivational outbursts: "Tonight, we take respect!" The pulsating montage that follows weaves through the amped-up rituals of the pregame locker room and the swaggering, almost ferocious swaying of several teams collectively flexing on-field, ready to explode, oblivious to the rain and snow dumping over them.

Under Armour and Lambert challenged Nice Shoes to take scenes shot on an 80-degree day and transform them into menacing snapshots of winter fury. "Everyone did a great job setting us up, blowing fake snow over the live-action scene and creating small drifts for effect," stated Baxter. "Then we took over in compositing and CG, creating a full-blast winter landscape in the background and foreground, adding or blocking snow as necessary, all against an edgy color palette true to Under Armour's brand. We added to the tension of athletes in the midst of intense preparation by creating the breath streaming from them with a mixture of live action elements and created particle systems."

The hero shot is a dramatic composited close-up of beading water shot at 120 frames and a CG liquid water drop (at 500 frames a second), portraying the droplet landing and then trickling down, completely repelled by Under Armour's Charged Cotton material. "We mocked this shot up two or three times, then referenced live shots and similar shots from our liquid CG simulation arsenal to create the final," added Baxter.

Producers and Nice Shoes have collaborated on the Under Armour account for years. "I was thrilled to team up with them once again," noted Mastrandrea. "We didn't have a ton of time to work on this - just a few days - and both Producers and Under Armour wanted the spot to really shine. That's where our years working together and our familiarity with the brand ethos came together to turn out an awesome spot."

Kevin Spacey for American Airlines "The Individual " Ad Campaign

Kevin Spacey is brilliant in the new ad campaign for American Airlines created by the ad agency McCann, London, enjoy a sneak peek of the spot set to air in a couple of days.

Official Press Release:
Kevin Spacey, the Academy Award-winning actor, takes on three new roles as part of a campaign to promote American Airline’s unique brand philosophy of understanding the individual flyer.

The 60-second ad ‘The Individual’ breaks on UK television on 12th November.
Kevin Spacey appears as a slick designer type, a creative screen writer and a Malibu family guy and finally as himself in the series of ads.
Director Chris Palmer of Gorgeous who’s previous work included the Skoda ‘Baking Of....’ and the Budweiser ‘Lyrics’ ad, worked closely with Kevin Spacey in developing and bringing to life the three characters who reflect the broad American Airlines premium flyer demographic.
American Airlines is tapping into the rich values associated with ‘Modern America’; egalitarianism, primacy of the individual and the impeccable but informal approach to customer service.
All the characters are united at the end of the film in their appreciation of American Airlines understanding ‘what makes me, me, whoever I happen to be.
Two additional 20 second ads bring the proposition to life. ‘Multiple Meals’ shows the three characters having distinctive dining habits, all of which are accommodated by American Airline’s ‘Dine Upon Request’ service. In ‘Multiple Boarding’, the characters are shown checking in their various ways, from a traditional boarding pass to a smartphone option.
The campaign is backed by out-of-home advertising and digital activity which has also been created by McCann, and ties in with American Airline’s evolved ‘discerning flyers’ strategy, developed to widen American’s appeal, to be more inclusive of a wider audience for First and Business.
The first screening of the Advertisement on TV will break on UK television on 12th November at 6.05 pm on ITV1 during the International Football match between England and Spain.

Maria Sebastian, Vice President, Sales and Marketing EMEA at American Airlines comments:
We believe that this new campaign is an exciting development for American Airlines as we have Kevin Spacey creating a number of unique characters purely for our campaign. It’s interesting and engaging – but crucially, it also conveys our service ethos, treating discerning customers as individuals.”

Geoff Smith and Simon Butler, Co-Creative Directors at McCann London, said of working with Spacey: “The casting of Kevin Spacey for the trio of roles was crucial to the emotional appeal of this ad, and his performance really lifts it to a higher level. He manages to combine an everyman quality with an indefinable touch of class, which sits seamlessly with the ‘discerning flyers’ message that the ad conveys.”

Chris Palmer says: “Kevin Spacey really nailed the characters, as you'd expect. I can't imagine any other living actor who could have transformed into such diverse and believable characters. It was weird shooting with him as a totally different character each day. The crew didn't recognise him when he came on set, even on the third day. You completely forgot it was Kevin Spacey in there. In fact, it was a bit of shock to see him as himself on day four.”

Google Launches GoMo aka "Go Mobile"

GoMo: Helping businesses create a mobile friendly website
Tuesday, November 1, 2011 via Google Mobile Ads Blog
On a crisp fall day, a young person uses his smartphone to find a store that sells scarves. He searches, finds your site, and clicks-thru, prepared to browse your inventory of scarves, or find your store nearby and buy one. But, after he clicks to your site he runs into trouble - it doesn't load fully, and he spends more time zooming-in and squinting than he does looking at scarves! Frustrated, he gives up and looks for another scarf store. You lose a potential customer.
This happens hundreds, even thousands of times every day because most businesses’ websites don’t work well on smartphones. The most important thing you can do to grow your business using the mobile web is to create a mobile-friendly website. So today we’re launching an initiative called GoMo that helps businesses “Go Mobile”.

What’s a mobile-friendly site? It’s a website designed specifically for mobile users and mobile devices. It’s fast to load and easy to use—no pinching and zooming required. Some great examples are right here.

Every day more and more of your customers are looking for you…on mobile devices. If you don’t have a site that works for mobile, you’re missing out. 61% of users are unlikely to return to a site that’s not mobile-friendly. On the other hand, customers embrace sites that are built for mobile--consumer engagement increases by 85% with a website designed for mobile devices.

So, are you ready to Go Mo? Visit howtogomo.com where you’ll find the resources you need to learn about what makes a good mobile site and to start building one.
