Virgin Media New Logo

Virgin Media has unveiled a new brand identity incorporating the Union Jack flag, as it seeks to match what it sees as a national mood of patriotism coming in 2012.

It has created a new logo with the blue, white and red flag, combined with the original red infinity symbol Virgin logo.
The logo, created by Start JudgeGill, will be unveiled in a new TV ad this week promoting the company's next-generation TV service TiVo.

Jeff Dodds, executive director of brand and marketing communications, said: "At Virgin Media, we're extremely proud of our British heritage and wanted to find a way to symbolically remind people about all the fantastic things about our nation.

"With Britain celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and hosting the Olympic Games next year, we believe there is no better time to show our pride and excitement about what it means to be British."

Kraken Rum Brand Themselves Apart with Myth and Legend

More than just a namesake, Kraken Rum have taken the legend of a mythical sea beast to all facets of their marketing strategies. This includes their antique bottle design, cool label art and now ambitious advertising campaign. The dark spiced rum may be owned by a New Jersey based company called Proximo Spirits, but their effective branding techniques conjure up a much more exotic image. Their tie in with the lore of the beast of the blackset seas works perfectly with the ads stark and stylish look, which is highlighted by the spot's inventive and cool animation.

Superette Branding Ad Campaign Really Leaves an Impression On You

Now this is taking branding a little too literal, as New Zealand fashion chain store Superette have created an ingenious yet controversial ploy to promote their 'Short shorts at Superette' marketing campaign.  Ad agency DDB Auckland  gorilla style campaign placed indented plates on bus stops, mall seats and park benches, subsequently leaving imprints on people's thighs.  The marketing ploy is both clever and questionable, as I'm sure not everyone wants to be branded like cattle to become a walking billboard ad.

Brand Marketing The Good The Bad and The Where

Carlos Mandelbaum, the man behind Carnival of Ideas discusses how advertising is no longer about TV commercials or print ads but more about creating conversations about brands. I find his comments very interesting regarding advertising agencies that are trying to create the brand buzz and how it just isn't happening.
The second clip is a brilliant animation created by Scholz & Friends from Germany who capture the reality of brand marketing and the dramatic shift we are seeing in marketing today. Nice to see some of us are finally getting it.

Scholz & Friends: "Dramatic shift in marketing reality" - aka "A short history of marketing" ...Michael Reissinger on Vimeo.

In the earlier days marketing was easy, in 1965 80% market coverage was achieved with only three 60 second TV spots. In today's new modern world marketing is not so easy anymore, 65% of people feel continuously bombarded with advertising. The Orchestra of Ideas created by Scholz & Friends is nice look at the reality of advertising and brand overload today.
This brilliant video clip about the changes in marketing realities by German ad agency Scholz & Friends, created by Michael Reissinger. Michael notes that it took about 5 weeks to create the video with the help of his animation guy Rafael Ahamad; including all the illustration, typo works and the animation.
He also gives credit to Mighty Marc at earcatcher-music.com who did the special effects and the music.

How To Advertise A BookStore

In a world where digital media has taken over, many people are reading less books. How do bookstores and advertisers get people to keep reading and buying books? Not an easy task in this day and age. The Steimatzky BookStore and their ad agency came up with this print ad hoping to scare us back into reading more books, it is a great idea for an ad campaign. Wouldn't the idea of your head shrinking make you just a little worried too.

Summer time is a great time for reading books. It broadens your mind and knowledge and can provide hours of fun. But in a world where digital media has taken over, how do you get people to read more books?

Answer: You warn the public of the consequences their behavior might have.

U.S Elections Presidential Campaign Logo's

John McCain stands out the most at first glance, with the black background and the star. Hilary Clinton's logo is more traditional and looks Presidential. The John Edwards logo caught my eye simply because of the green swoosh...I liked that.
The Barack Obama logo is the most progressive and elegant one of them all. The concept and execution found within this logo are years ahead of the others The light blue found on either side of his name really ties this one together nicely. And in the year 2008, how did none of the other logos include the website address, like this one managed to do? Amazing!
