Nissan Extrem New Concept Sports Car Gets Tough On The Streets

Nissan gets tough on the streets with their new concept sports car "Extrem". Nissan captured the vibrancy, color and excitement of Brazil with EXTREM, a radical car aimed squarely at the young (and young-at-heart) car enthusiasts keen to make a statement on the roads. Press below.

  • First concept car from Nissan designed specifically for Brazil
  • Design reflects the color and passion of the country
  • A new urban compact sports car that's exotic yet attainable
  • Rugged and agile 2+2 with distinctive color treatment

EXTREM has been created especially for Brazil. It has been designed for and built in the country and has its world debut at the 27th São Paulo International Motor Show (October 24 – November 4).

"Brazil is a country of great natural beauty and it has a passionate, rich culture. But this is not always reflected in the cars on its streets, especially the more affordable locally produced vehicles which tend to be conservative in design, color and specification," said Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer.

"EXTREM, with a dynamic, high-character design, is far from conservative. It was created to appeal to the country's growing band of city-based young professionals who are passionate about design and want to make a personal statement. The lightweight two-door 2+2, has a dynamic stance, fresh surfacing, and a clear rugged ability to tackle the urban jungle everyday," he added.

Designed by Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, in collaboration with Brazilian designers and produced in Brazil, the concept previews a new breed of car. By blending versatility and toughness with the agility of a compact 2+2, EXTREM is a new genre of urban compact sports car.

Its unveiling at the São Paulo Motor Show underscores Nissan's commitment to Brazil. The country is one of the largest new car markets in the world and one in which Nissan enjoys significant sales growth. The company claimed almost two per cent of the 2011 market, doubling its 2010 sales, and aims to account for five per cent of new car sales in Brazil by 2016. via NissanNews.com | USA

The Greatest Cat You'll Ever See | "Just Feels Inside" Toyota Commercial

A love-struck protagonist cat and a feel-good car are the makings of the one of best commercials I've seen this year, the best one starring a cat that is. This fantastic new commercial for the 2013 Toyota Corolla entitled "Feels Good Inside" features a curious cat who seems to have some bad luck with his curiosity, from being run over by a lawn mover to diving into wet cement. But the best part is this cat's dive attack on the dog. The ending, well let's just say this cat will be back.

Usain Bolt for Nissan GT-R and Krispy Kreme?

Jamaica's multiple gold medal winner Usain Bolt stopped at Nissan's GranDrive testing track and Yokohama headquarters, bringing his record speed and excitement to Japan and becoming Nissan's Director of Excitement. I'm sure the fact that Nissan team is developing a special "Bolt" version GT-R.

Bolt appeared at Nissan's world headquarters, saying: "Racing is my inspiration, and I want to help Nissan become an even more exciting brand for everyone."

In recognition of Bolt's contribution to sports and his automotive enthusiasm, Nissan's Chief Operating Officer unveiled a unique gold-painted GT-R, which will be auctioned to benefit the Usain Bolt Foundation (http://usainbolt.com/foundation/).

Bolt, who was picked up Tokyo's Narita Airport in a GT-R driven by F1 racer Mark Webber (below), is expected to contribute further to Nissan's "WHAT IF_" global brand campaign.

To continue building brand momentum at Nissan, TV commercials featuring the Nissan LEAF electric vehicle, called "What if you could drive the future, today?", will also start airing.

But here's what really caught my eye about the big production
Nissan and the new Director of Excitement...
At about the 1:00 minute mark Bolt enjoys a delicious doghnut during a
brief interview of the "To the World: Usain Bolt in the Nissan House" video.
Not just any doughnut, but a magical creation of warm gooey goodness from
Krispy Kreme. An obvious product placement? Maybe, maybe not...

2012 Toyota Tacoma | Wacky Girlfriend Cliff Jump Ad

The Toyota Tacoma has earned quite a reputation among pickup trucks, which is quite a feat in a market that has been traditionally dominated by American brands like Ford, GMC, Dodge, and Chevrolet. And because competition is stiff in the segment, manufacturers often craft ads trying to convince consumers that their truck as the strongest and most durable currently available. While they all use words like “tough” and “rugged” to describe their vehicles, Toyota goes that extra mile in their most recent Tacoma commercial to bring those words to life. The ad provides a humorous twist to the theme of durability in what is sure to be one of the most memorable automobile commercials of the year.

Set on a beach below a steep and rocky cliff, the commercial’s opening shot is of four young adults taking a joyride through the sand. Made to appear as if viewers are witnessing a home video, the truck’s passengers hoot and holler while their Tacoma kicks sand high into the air. The scene abrubtly ends as if someone began taping over the home video and cuts to a young woman, presumably the truck owner’s girlfriend, who begins to air her frustrations about “Mike” and his “precious four-by-four, hang-out-all-day with your stupid friends truck.”

She continues her rant making fun of Mike for describing the truck as “totally sick,” and her extreme jealousy is more than apparent to viewers. It immediately becomes clear she is going to teach Mike a lesson by showing him what she really thinks of his Tacoma. At this point, viewers are sympathizing with the young woman and probably thinking of their own significant others’ prized possessions. This sympathy turns to shock, however, when at the end of the girlfriend’s rant, she turns away from the camera towards the top of the cliff and yells “push it!”

The 2012 Tacoma bounces and flips over boulders and outcroppings, at one point somersaulting repeatedly down the hill, and the whole time the girlfriend is wildly screaming her approval. A few seconds later, when the truck makes it to the bottom of the hill, it miraculously lands right side up and seems undamaged by its rocky decent. The girlfriend screams “Noooo!” and the commercial ends with these words on the screen, “Tacoma Double Cab: Toyota Get the Feeling.”

Obviously the commercial is a hyperbole, no pickup truck would survive such a fall unscathed. However, with it’s comedic exaggeration, Toyota has created a vivid image in the mind of the consumer. The message that the Tacoma is the toughest, most durable truck available comes across loud and clear.

We Found Tim Allen In Two New 2013 Chevy Malibu Commercials

Chevrolet introduces the all new 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco and the 2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ with a new ad campaign, "Malibu State of Mind" featuring Tim Allen as the brand's voice in the spots. OK so it's not the first time Allen has been the Chevy's voice in their TV ads but, didn't anyone really notice the commercials he did last year?

At least Tim Allen is easier on the ears, know where near as frightening as having to listen to the two goofy couples singing that 80's smash hit song "True" in that other Malibu Eco commercial.

More Audi ads making the rounds, Audi's "Return to Snake River Canyon" to relive the original Evil Knievel jump has not gone over to well with viewers, I believe viewers are giving it a "Blue Balls" rating, see for yourself below.

On a positive, one the greatest Audi ads was the "Progress Is Beautiful" spot which aired back in 2008, see it HERE.

Land Rover LR4 “Born Free”

It is widely believed around the world that the Land Rover Discovery 4, or LR4, is one of the very best off-roading vehicles that money can buy. However Land Rover’s recent “Born Free” commercial falls short of convincing viewers that this is true. Although the brand is known as the pioneer of bringing off-road vehicles “on-road” for everyday use, in the face of ever increasing luxury 4x4 competition, Land Rover’s latest commercial fails to convey that they are in the business of manufacturing the finest off-road vehicles on earth.

To begin on a good note, the commercial is set to the classic Andy Williams Born Free tune, which appropriately inspires a feeling of adventure in viewers and a yearning for the great outdoors. The background music is also appropriate as it ties in Land Rover’s connection with the Born Free Foundation, a conservation organization that the brand has supported for many years.

The “Born Free” commercial’s focus, however, is a vibrant young couple who repeatedly visit a dry-cleaner with their dirty laundry. In three visits, they drop off sand filled desert clothing, soaking wet clothes, and leaf covered jungle clothing. The worker behind the counter is obviously puzzled about what they’ve been up to, and the ad paints a stark contrast between the adventurous lives of the couple and the humdrum existence of the man who runs the store.

While viewers are as intrigued as the dry-cleaner as to where this this couple has been and what they have been doing, it isn’t clear until the last few moments when the worker goes to the window and sees them driving away that this is a Land Rover commercial, let alone a car commercial. Unfortunately for Land Rover, viewers are left with more of an opinion of the adventurous couple than the vehicle they drive, which is a shame because the LR4 is truly an impressive ride.

Although Land Rover’s competitors show off the sleek lines, luxurious interiors, and ideal environments for their vehicles, Land Rover only offers us glimpses of what the LR4 is all about. And while it is true that the ad is successful in that it makes viewers want to know more about the vehicle, the “Born Free” commercial is obviously an example of marketing a lifestyle rather than a product. Only time will tell if this ploy is a successful one, but when you’ve got a product as remarkable as the LR4—you’re going to sell it no matter how it is marketed.
